LATEST UPDATE: Our Mama Susan is now with our Lord. She passed away last Friday / July 23 around 8-8:30PM after battling Covid-19 for 20 days. In behalf of our family, we would like to thank everyone who expresses their condolences and sympathies towards our family in the most lowest and difficult time of our lives. Thank you also for all your generosity until the last days of our mother. Her ashes will be laid to rest tomorrow July 28/Wednesday at St. Ignatius Memorial Garden, Sta. Maria Pangasinan.
Hi everyone, I am Jaypee and I am humbly knocking at your good heart for any financial assistance that you can extend to our family towards our mother's fight against COVID-19.
Our mother Susana Castillo Gaudia, 65 years old from Santa Maria Pangasinan is currently admitted at Tayug Family Hospital (Tayug Pangasinan) since last Saturday, July 3, 2021 around 1-2 AM with chief complaint of difficulty of breathing and easy fatigability. Upon initial assessment of the doctors, they considered Community Acquired Pneumonia and Hypoxemia as their initial diagnosis with oxygen saturation of 60-70% and relying to the aid of oxygen support at 50% level. RT-PCR test was done and it shows a Positive COVID-19 result. Our mother was immediately transferred at the COVID-19 ward for the start of her treatment and closely monitoring considering also that she has other comorbidities such as diabetes and hypertension. Even at 80% oxygen support therapy, her oxygen saturation is fluctuating at 70-80% and still way below the normal level of 95-100%. Several doctors from the different specializations were already involved in attending our mother's situation. Initial treatment of Remdesivir (anti-viral drug) was given once daily and should be bought by cash at the hospital's pharmacy beforehand at Php10,700 per vial. Other medications were also simultaneously given such as antibiotics for her pneumonia and Insulin shot for her diabetes.
As of yesterday, Sunday / July 4 / 3PM, the main attending doctor of the team talked to us regarding possible standby intubation assisted by a mechanical ventilation in any worst case scenario that may arise considering of our mother's current situation and breathing assessment and even with a heavy heart we already gave our informed consent (but we are all hoping and praying fervently that she will no longer require possible intubation and will have improvement with her breathing).
Also, as of yesterday, Sunday / July 4 / 7PM, the attending Nephrologist called and explained to us that our mother needs to undergo "Hemoperfusion" (a potential treatment for severe COVID-19 patients with cytokine storm to prevent internal organ damages), in layman's term "the virus is hyper and very active inside her body" and that all of her inflammatory markers are way high above normal. The procedure should be done immediately once the availability of the vascular surgeon is confirmed. Our family already gave our informed consent as well for this procedure. The Hemoperfusion treatment and cartridge alone is priced at Php40,000 per session (depending on response and improvement) which should be paid first in cash before every treatment.
Our mother's current oxygen saturation is still fluctuating at 80-90% with a maximum oxygen support given at 100%. The doctors and nurses are doing everything that they can just to avoid possible intubation along the process.
As of today, Monday / July 5 / 9AM roughly 2 1/2 days after admission, the running bill is already at Php180,000 excluding of the professional fees and all the cash advances that the hospital requires us to shell-out first because it will not be a part of the total bill upon discharge. As of 3PM today, our mother is already scheduled to undergo catheter insertion for her Hemoperfusion treatment. And tonight, our mother will also undergo CT Pulmonary Angiogram, to check possible pulmonary embolism and the current condition of her lungs due to COVID-19. This said test was also paid in cash advance at Php22,000.
UPDATE as of July5 / 9PM: First session of Hemoperfusion and CT Pulmonary Angiogram was successfully done.
Our mother is conscious and fully aware of what is happening to her, though gasping for breath while talking to us over the phone and video calls thru Viber. We can't thank enough the good heart, the kindness and the humanity of the nurses in accommodating our precious request even just for a few minutes knowing that our mother is well taken-care of.
Together with our father Pedro, my 2 elder sisters Shylene and Shella and our respective family, we humbly admit that we cannot do it all alone by ourselves. Our personal savings were maximized and not enough to fund and shoulder all the treatments and expenses needed to be done for our mother. WE LOVE OUR MOTHER SO MUCH... As much as we want to provide and give our very best in providing with all our capabilities, our total combined efforts were still not enough. We can only hope and pray harder for better days ahead for our mother's condition. We are humbly knocking at your good heart for any financial assistance that you can extend to our family in these difficult and lowest time of our lives. Small or big when combined together will be a big help for our mother's daily hospital expenses and billing. And if we may ask also to include our mother Susana in your prayers that she will show better improvement in the coming days. We cannot thank you enough in advance and truly GOD knows the kindness and generosity of His children and He will bless them hundred-folds.
I will update this campaign from time-to-time once we are given with other details by the doctors and nurses. We are only currently communicating thru texts and calls, as we all know that we cannot be there physically inside the hospital during this current situation and we can only rely through limited information given to us daily.
Rest assured that this campaign and donations will be given transparency.
