What is it like to survive childhood sexual abuse and rape?

Many adults across Ireland have suffered such abuse and each individual has a unique story of survival. A group of survivors will use expressive writing to produce poetry and other written pieces, working online in the days leading up to Poetry Day Ireland.

Expressive writing is writing from the personal, the emotional, from the body, mind and spirit, from experiences and memories, from all that is held within: in your own voice. It has the power to improve your mental health and well-being, with a positive effect on your relationships and place in the world around you.

The emphasis is on survivor participants choosing who they write for: for the self, for trusted other/s or for the general public. Any writing for publishing will be shared online.

The course is facilitated by survivor, human rights lawyer and expressive writing facilitator, Anna Morvern.
