I was born with Craniosynostosis and had surgery at the age of 4 months. Thereafter I lived for 12 years unknowingly with constant pressure and fluid on the brain causing chronic headaches. At the age of 22 after completing my degree and Honours degree in Chattered Accountancy as well as my first year of articles I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation. At the age of 23 in my second year of articles I underwent surgery, but the first surgery had complications as my body rejected the artificial dura. This caused infection as well as a CSF leak. After 4 weeks I went back for the second surgery and within 24 hours my body rejected the second, stronger and more expensive artificial dura. 7 days after the second surgery I went in for a third time and this time they used muscle and flesh from my leg to patch the dura and since then no leaks happened again. Now I am sitting with a lot of stress financially and this affects my health. I even had to work overtime compromising my physical health just to pay some medical bills. Originally it was almost R600 000. After I spoke to the medical aid ombudsman they agreed that the medical aid should have paid multiple bills. Then it reduced to R120 000. I used my annual bonus as well as my overtime to pay the bills as well as my credit card to the max, together with my entire salary because they threatened with lawsuits as well as blacklisting me. Currently I still need R80 000 to clear the debt and threats of blacklisting etc. The stress is too great for me to handle and the headaches are starting again. I can not fully recover and give my 100% at work and study for my final board exam to qualify as a CA in this state. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
