My name is Anton Subbota. I was born in the Moscow region, Russia. I have a wife and 2 daughters.

When I was a kid, I see my grandfather just twice. He lived in a small poor apartment alone. He was Doctor of Geological Sciences, but his salary was miserable. Unfortunately, he died when I was 8 years old.

Several years later on the dusty attic of my house, I found a lot of books, which he bought, and his diaries. He started his diaries when he was just 16, and continued them till his death. In that diaries, I read a lot about his grandfather and our family story.

It was the start of my new hobby: genealogy. I did it with a passion, visited a lot of archives in Russian and Ukraine. Using documents, I reached 1649 year, wherein Cossacks registry were mentioned my far ancestors Subotenko.

After that, I decided to use modern technology which science gave us - DNA test. I mean Y chromosome test, which inherited from father to son - as surname does. I was going to find out is people with my surname, which means Saturday, related or no. So I made a Y-chromosome test for myself and tried to invite namesakes from Russia to do the same.

So I started in Russia, but now it includes Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Serbia. And it's not only Subbota, but Subota, Sobota, Subotich, Subotenko, Subbotin and many others. There is a map which I created where surname Saturday mentioned in different countries in 17th century.

I found out that a lot of people in that territory live very poorly. They can't afford these tests, but really discover more about their story. At first, I tried to help as much as possible and bought for them cheapest Y-DNA test, interpreted results, shared documents from the archive which I collected. I used FTDNA service to make this test and created this group.

So my genealogy research, which was started just for myself, becomes international research, which I do for any namesakes, who are not usually related to me.

I also opened a website where I share my stories about my research.

It's my hobby, it makes people happy. A lot of namesaked said me really warm words, thanking me that I help them to know more about their family story.

But it becomes hard to support this project, this website and do DNA test. It's not cheap at all, it requires money. And I do it for people around me, not for myself.

So I will be really thankful for any help and any donation. It will support my research, which I believe help people.
