Dexter is a very special Carolina Dog (formerly known as an American Dingo) who was rescued as a starving puppy 13 years ago...he just turned 14 this summer. He has been an empathetic, smart, loving, and protective therapy dog for many people who have suffered from traumatic experiences. I am a psychotherapist in private practice and he has consistently helped facilitate healing for my clients and for others as well. He now needs pacemaker surgery at Angell Memorial Hospital in Boston. Elaborate diagnostics have been done and he is deemed otherwise healthy and a great candidate for successful surgery. Although he is an older dog, this breed"s average lifespan is 15...they often live longer. Your donation would contribute to him having a chance to continue his excellent work throughout 2 or 3 more years. He has given so much to others. This is not a case of a dog owner who is unwilling to let go of a dying dog. I have let go of other animals who I was close to and will be willing to do that someday with Dexter. All indications are that this is not his time to go. He is remarkably healthy and engaged in life for a dog his age. He simply needs a pacemaker so his strong heart muscle remains strong. Right now his cardiologist says that, most likely due to a genetic issue, his heart is beating without the proper nerve signals telling it to beat. He is relying exclusively on a natural back-up "pacemaker" that is not going to hold up much longer, thus the need for fully funded surgery as soon as possible. Small donations, even $10 or $20, will accumulate to meet the goal so a surgery can be scheduled. Thanks in advance to any of you who decide to help!! Whether or not you can afford to help, please spread the word through online sites or by emailing contacts.
