Supporting the Sigagule Crèche

Royal Malewane, part of the Royal Portfolio - a curated collection of luxury properties in South Africa - is passionate supporting their local communities. Case in point, the Sigagule Creche. Since 2009, the company has been dedicated to creating meaningful change in the lives of the children of the Sigagule - a village located about 10kms from Royal Malewane. Originally housing 90 children crowded into a single classroom big enough for just 30, the creche at that time has no running water and just two, primitive toilet facilities. At that time as well, the crèche simply provided meals and basic daycare to the children.

Today the crèche has expanded to accommodate approximately 130 children ranging in age from six months to six years. This number usually increases to about 190 children by the end of each year. As well, Royal Malewane implemented a special teacher-training program for the staff in 2010 so that children at the creche (and for several other rural pre-schools in the immediate area) could receive an introductory education curriculum to prepare them for their early schooling years. The results have been amazing and the children have benefited immensely. Other, completed projects include the building of additional classrooms, installation of water pipes, new toilet facilities, the construction of a play area, a vegetable garden that supplies 80% of the vegetables used to feed the children, the creation of a baby room, a borehole to alleviate water issues, a dining room and mattresses for nap time.

While Royal Malewane covers the administration costs of the Crèche, more help is needed for these children. Current projects include a second borehole, water storage tanks and pumps, painting, replacement of stoves, a second garden, irrigation and seedlings for the garden, additional tables and benching to accommodate children for mealtime, school supplies, etc. Please know that 100% of the donations received are put directly into the projects at the Crèche.
