With streaming down and the collapse of live shows, it’s been a difficult period for artists – but music has still offered solace...

The initial impact of Covid-19 on the music industry was an unexpected one. But like many other sectors, the entertainment and media industry has been significantly affected by COVID-19, with notably severe impacts on cinemas, live music and advertising sales. There have been immediate implications for some income streams: the impact on live is particularly severe for many artists, venues, clubs and the industry that sits around that. This is going to take some time to recover from, and some elements of this part of the industry may never be the same again.

Music is known to be a part of everyday life and a resource for mood and emotion management, everyday life has changed significantly for many due to the global coronavirus pandemic, making the role of music in everyday life more important. Music has always been used for mood regulation, and to reduce levels of anxiety and worry, and we have observed this at a much greater level during this pandemic.

As people turn to music for emotional support and comfort in these tough times, it's in our hands to provide backing and support our artists, so that they may continue offering that solace and support back to us.

It's time to change the tune and start supporting those that bring happiness and joy to our every day.
