Supporting leper colonies in Myanmar

Leprosy, largely cured in the developed world, has not yet left the shores of Myanmar. Sufferers are ostracised and stigmatised, while their shelters are chronically underfunded.

My proposal is two-fold:

1) Make a one-off donation to improve living conditions by installing 40 simple electric fans at a cost of around USD20 each, plus USD5 a year in electricity costs. This will help resolve chronic overheating of the shelters, especially during Myanmar's dry season where temperatures can soar up to 40 degrees Celsius.

2) Ongoing donations of around USD300 per month to help fund staples such as additional rations of rice, meat, bandages, medication and others. While local donors in Myanmar are likely able to raise the amount required, international donors would allow both the magitude and frequency of the support to be substantially increased.

Listed below is what you can provide with different donation amounts:

USD25: One electric fan and electricity for a year

USD100: One cooked meal for the colony, including meat dishes that are rarely available to them

USD300: One month's additional staples, including uncooked rice, bandages and medication

In short, any sort of assistance of any amount would be highly appreciated.
