Project objective:

The project’s specific objective aims to contribute towards the mitigation of food insecurity among already food-insecure families.

Context Description:

The blockade of Gaza, and recurrent hostilities, has crippled Gaza’s once vibrant, export-led economy, and shattered the private and public sector’s capacity to generate jobs and income.

The socio-economic situation in Gaza Strip is characterized by high population density and growth reaches 1.90 million, high unemployment rate (61%) and almost 65% of the population is living below the poverty line , Palestinian Center for human rights and 80% of Gazans depend on the external aids .

Unemployment has caused deepening poverty, eroding food security in Gaza and causing increasing reliance on humanitarian aid to meet basic needs. The number of people receiving food rations has increased. Food insecure households in Gaza surged primarily due to a lack of economic access to food as a result of unemployment, rising prices and inflation. Access to food has been further impacted by the 2014 hostilities, especially for those households whose homes, productive assets and other capital were lost.

In addition to generating unemployment and poverty, the blockade also severely restricts movement of people and goods, isolating Gazans from the rest of the world. Restrictions on movement outside Gaza add to the frustration, dis-empowerment and insecurity in the Strip – feelings that are alarmingly palpable in times of conflict, when the population has nowhere to flee.

The imposed blockade, economic sanctions and the aggression have deep impact on the people of Gaza, particularly on the economic situation as the people of Gaza Strip live in a humane crisis: electricity outage, no incomes… etc..

Food security in Gaza has remarkably got worsened since the imposition of the siege in 2007 and the last aggression of July-August 2014. According to OCHA, Gaza Strip population is 1.9 million, currently 1.3 million food insecure and vulnerable to food insecurity. On the other hand, agriculture in Gaza is considered as a mainstay to strengthening the position of providing food and in somewhat to pick up the current living situation in Gaza, but it becomes suffering from many problems due to the strangling economic situation in the strip.

Proposed intervention:

UFA will provide the most vulnerable Families with Udheyia meat during Eid Al-Adha to the people live in the Gaza Strip.

Project Outputs

Through the distribution of Udheyia meat, almost 1850 food insecure families living in the Gaza Strip will be able to meet their most basic food requirements during Eid Al-Adha.
