ABOUT KASI INNOVATION FUND

Founded by Moloko Serumula (President), Keletso Moloto (Head of Fundraising Committee), and Shantel Mmakola (Head of Development). Kasi Innovation Fund is a non profit organization supporting innovative young township entrepreneurs in South Africa. It is set to stimulate South Africa’s most exciting entrepreneurs giving them access to the tools, skills and financial support that will enable them to bring their unique, innovation and exciting business ideas to life.

THE MOST COMMON CHALLENGES FACED BY YOUNG SOUTH AFRICAN TOWNSHIP ENTREPRENEURS

1. ACCESS TO FINANCE

Many first-time entrepreneurs in South Africa have never pitched their business idea to a group of funders, nor they conducted market research, or produced a business plan.

Small business owners often don’t have the capital to fund their efforts and don’t have a strong enough credit rating to receive funding.

These are issues exacerbated by cycles of social injustice, and income inequality, as a result of South Africa’s history.

2.LIMITED PROFESSIONAL NETWORK ACCESS

What we have realized is that young township entrepreneurs don’t usually have access to the professional networks of more experienced business owners or business graduates.

This means they aren’t able to access mentorship, funding, more prosperous markets, and the many other benefits that connecting to leaders in the industry can bring about.

MAIN GOAL

Our goal for this project is to raise funds which will be used to lay a foundation by bringing together essential elements to create a viable ecosystem, from which young township innovative entrepreneurs can accelerate their growth. This will be done through funding, mentorship masterclasses, networking, strategic alliances, recognizing excellency in youth and promoting a vibrant entrepreneurial culture.
