Over the last 2 decades, armed and political conflicts in DR Congo have caused more than 10 million deaths (more than those of the holocaust and genocides together); and have displaced more than 17 million Congolese as refugees within the country as well as in other countries.
In the East part of the country, which is very rich in minerals, men, women and children have been raped and slaughtered while their belongings are burned. This has been occurring every week for the past 25 years in a region where the UN forces have an estimated 20,000 peacekeepers near the UN base.
In early April 2021, the Elite Movement for Democracy and Real Change and other human rights groups and movements started a successful nationwide campaign against this form of genocide. This pushed the Congolese government to proclaim a state of siege to bring back peace and security in this region.
On May 22, 2021, the Mount Nyiragongo volcano erupted in North Kivu causing more deaths. Houses, household items and many other people's belongings were washed away by a river of fire. Over 700.000 people were displaced and need immediate assistance.
Your donation will help to buy materials such as flags, banners, t-shirts, and banderols to use in our peace caravan and assistance in water, shelter, food and non-food items to volcano victims.
Thank you very much in advance for your contribution.
