Cody Ironside and Francesca Donaghy -
Two seventeen year old friends hoping to take part in an opportunity of a lifetime together! The both of us are aspiring primary school teachers who simply want to have a positive impact on the younger generation.
As individuals who thrive off the opportunity of helping others it is an understatement to say that we were slightly excited when we discovered that we could impact the lives of young children across the globe, whilst at the same time travelling and discovering a whole new culture.
Teaming up with PMGY (Plan My Gap Year), we have the opportunity to travel to Abalangoda – a coastal town located in the beautiful country of Sri Lanka. This 3-week trip would involve us working in a local orphanage, helping to brighten the lives of multiple young people, each with different yet unfortunate backgrounds. Many of these children have lost both parents, whilst some others have been rescued from broken homes and abusive families, others have simply been given up by their families as they purely cannot afford to look after them. We want to give these young people a different perspective on life. A happier and more positive one.
The trip will be occurring in late June 2018 – not long before the both of us go off to university to fulfil our dream of becoming primary school teachers. The skills and experience that this trip will give us would undoubtedly have an impact on the future generation, giving us a whole new perspective of life which we could then apply and use to our advantage when teaching here in the UK (perhaps even teaching your future children/grandchildren)
The trip is understandably costing a significant amount of money and we are definitely not expecting sponsors/donations to cover all expenses. However, we do not believe that money/costs should prevent us from providing these children with the love and friendships that they deserve. With that being said, we cannot express how appreciative we are of every single donation and we can assure you that we will put our all into helping the amazing young people of Sri Lanka. Any extra funding can go towards useful resources for the children that we will take on our trip (E.g. pencils, jotters etc) During our trip, you can be sure to find photos/videos/updates of our time in Sri Lanka and can witness how your donations have helped the young people, as well as giving us both the opportunity of a life time to learn so much knowledge and experience which we will carry and remember forever.
- The money raised through this page will be divided between the 2 of us and will go towards the funding of the trip.
- If you have any extra questions/queries about what our trip will involve – feel free to ask! Thank You!

Please Note -
We are currently coming up with ideas of different fundraising events/activities that we can do before we take part in our project. We will be sure to update this page when we have confirmed our activities.
