What is Forward Learning Youth and Young Adults? (FLYY)
Forward Learning Youth and Young Adults (FLYY) is a non-profit, community-based, youth and family-serving organization that specializes in working with at-risk, court-involved, underserved teens and young adults. FLYY helps prevent high-risk teens and young adults from becoming chronic offenders, substance abusers, truants, or dropouts. FLYY is distinctive in its innovative approach by offering: a 25-day wilderness expedition, parent skills and support groups, and ongoing aftercare.

Wilderness Expedition
Our students take part in a 25-day wilderness expedition that instills a newfound sense of reverence. Through the expeditions students develop the capacity to care about their lives, families, communities, the environment, and the world around them. FLYY teaches values and skills so students are better suited to: look critically at their lives and how their actions affect others, resolve conflicts, communicate more effectively, cope with stress and failure with more ease, and make decisions that minimize harmful effects on both themselves and others. The larger aim is transference---taking the lessons learned on the expedition and applying them back home.
Parent Skills/Support
Evidence suggests that early intervention and ongoing support for both parents and teens has a significant positive impact. FLYY ensures that parents/guardians get the help they need to support their teen/young adult after their FLYY experience.
Ongoing Aftercare
We believe that transitioning back to one’s home and community is often the most difficult aspect that the teens/young adults will face and that having support is crucial. Therefore, we offer:
1) Support groups for teens and parents after they return home
2) Alumni actives
3) Individual/family therapy and conflict resolution

As a parent of a graduate of FLYY I cannot begin to express just how much this organization has meant to our family. I feel like for the first time in a long time I can see my son - he is sober and committed to his life and recognizes just how capable he is, we all do! Please consider giving other families who need to reboot or rebuild or remember the financial support they need to make this a reality. FLYY is worth every penny and I can sincerely say I have NEVER met more committed and hardworking staff!

Words cannot express the gratitude I, as a FLYY graduates parent (as of 5/26/2013), have for this program, the directors & staff that work with all of the teens. The values & skills learned by both my son (while on course) & myself (during the parent support groups) will always be used in our home going forward! It is very clear that everyone involved in this program puts their heart & soul into these teens. THANK YOU for such an amazing & positive experience that brought more hope into our household! <3
