Support to LGBTQ persons in Uganda – our friends

It just got from bad to worse! Already the situation for the LGBTQ persons in Uganda (“our friends”) was not pleasant; with our friends being greatly discriminated against, experiencing stigmatization, being denounced by their families and the list goes on.

In May of 2023 the situation just got worse with the enactment of the Anti-homosexuality act in Uganda which in effect outlaws participating in, promoting and facilitating acts of homosexuality. Now the perpetrators of discrimination against our friends have this new law on their side and are leveraging it to further their marginalization leading to our friends losing jobs, getting evicted, getting arrested, experiencing physical harm, being extorted and the list goes on.

As a community-based organization advocating for equal rights for minorities and the marginalized we have since 2018 fought for the rights of our friends and supported them overcome the various challenges they face.

Since the advent of this new law against our friends, we have of late been overwhelmed and stretched by a significant increase of our friends in dire need of our support and assistance to overcome the huge increase of challenges they are facing.

In light of the plight our friends are in, we hope you can empathize with them. We invite you to offer financial support towards this cause that will go towards supporting our friends. The funds raised will among others go towards:

• Legal services to those that have been jailed
• Paying for bond and bail fees
• Offering of temporary accommodation
• Medical attention to the injured

Relocation and resettlement to safe destinations
