Support Tegan so she will be able to compete in the International Dragon Boating Festival in Hong Kong!

Hiya there (:

My name is Tegan Smythe and this year I am competing for two crews; Lion Dragon Boating Club & Auckland Representative Team.

From the 21st to the 24th of June I will be competing for Lion DBC at the International Hong Kong Dragon Boating Festival. This club is the only team (I'm informed of) who is from New Zealand and attending the event. Through this event I will have the opportunity to compete against Dragon Boat clubs from Canada, the US, the UK, the Phillipines, Australia, China, Singapore and Malaysia. My team was selected by the event organisers to compete at the Hong Kong event from the many teams in New Zealand. This selection was based on the Clubs consistently high level of performance at the New Zealand National Championships placing in the top 3 amongst multiple racing divisions every year since 2010 and also due to the clubs results at the International Dragon Boat Federation’s (IDBF) Club Crew World Championships event in 2016 where the club won Bronze medals in the Small Boat Open division.

In addition to competing for Lion DBC, this is my second year competing for the Auckland Representative Team. I also captained (and competed for) Epsom Girls Grammar in 2017 where we succeeded in obtaining the winning streak for the 17th consecutive year. Alongside this, Epsom Dragon Boating earned 4 golds, 4 silvers and 1 bronze between Regionals and Nationals for the season.

I am currently studying at the University of Auckland. Due to being committed to both Dragon Boating and my education, the issue of possibly having to sit my exams in Hong Kong has risen. If this is so I will have to spend circa $350 for one exam (hence why I have chosen the goal displayed).
