Please help us support the Syrian refugee community in Izmir, Turkey. We are Roni and Mimi, two American college students who moved to Turkey to work for TIAFI, an organization supporting the Syrian refugee community in Izmir. We have quickly learned that the Syrian refugee community has been devastated by the Covid-19 pandemic: job losses and program closures have made their already precarious situation unlivable. TIAFI is one of the only organizations operating in this region supporting refugees, and their work is essential in providing for the basic needs of refugees.
Every day we work to distribute 200 meals to the local refugee and host communities and help run TIAFI’s after-school and childcare programs that enrich children’s education and give their mothers time to work. TIAFI also runs exercise and flexibility programs for 70 disabled Syrian youth, often with injuries sustained from war, employment programs for refugee women, clothing distribution, and an information center providing translation services and legal assistance.
The pandemic has dried up donations, but the work of the refugee community center is constant. Support is needed now more than ever to make sure that TIAFI can continue providing its critical services to the refugees and host community. Any donations will go a long way in supporting the organization’s goals.
