Help Johann Fight Stage 4 Brain Cancer

Many of Johann’s friends who care deeply for his well-being have asked how they can donate in his time of need. We have set up this fundraising page for anyone who wants to help Johann with some of his expenses. A fundraising page was set up last year, but that has now expired, and Johann still requires financial help.

For those who don’t know him, Johann is from South Africa and has lived in Taiwan for 17 years working as an English teacher. In July 2019 he was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer and has since undergone 3 major operations to try to remove the tumor. He has also done radiation and chemo several times and all of this has left his body in an extremely weak state.

After the third operation he has difficulty moving the left side of his body. He needs 24/7 care and spends most of his day in bed resting. Because his body is so weak he has also contracted other illnesses and just had surgery in the middle of September for issues with his appendix. He is still in the hospital.

Since his diagnosis he has faced multiple challenges not only to his health, but financially. Several times a month he must travel a long distance to the hospital which thankfully has one of the country’s top oncology departments. He needs a lot of support from friends and even complete strangers to get him there and back. Johann is eternally grateful for their help.

The cost of caring for Johann is as follows. Currently, all of these costs are being paid for by M., who has kindly taken Johann in during his time of need. Johann is unable to work and has already exhausted all of his savings. Johann”s Family in South African cannot support these cost and monthly expenses.

24/7 LIVE-IN CARE TAKER

NT$30,000 per month (17,500 Rand / $1,000 USD)

DAILY EXPENSES (food, milk formula, sanitary supplies, transport to hospital)

Basic need is NT$40,000 per month (23,500 Rand / $1,350 USD).

If you are in Taiwan and you or anyone you know in the Hsinchu area could volunteer to accompany Johann on a hospital visit it would be a huge help. He has to travel to the hospital every 2 weeks. You don’t need to have your own car, a taxi can be arranged and paid for.
