Roma (Gypsy) children need your help.
„Vointa Cetate“ Traditional Roma dancers from Bistrita-Nasaud, (Romania) is comprised of youngsters who want to dance and perform as much as possible. Our venues include annual festivals at the municipal level (Festivalul Traditiilor Tiganesti- 15 August), and the local level (Festivalul „Laleaua Pestrita”- May), elementary schools and local cultural events. We would like to purchase costumes (namely skirts, shirts and scarves) for the girls. These pieces of cloths represent the main elements of the Roma traditional costume in our region.
In the image you can see, in order to participate to the festival we actually borrowed the clothes from a Roma NGO 100km away (Baia Mare). These costumes are the main necessity we have by now, even though we do not have an outstanding performance or a space to practice or to meet regularly.
We believe that these costumes can have beneficial effects for multiple reasons. On the one hand it will contribute in strengthening Roma children identity and make them proud of their ethnicity in a country where discrimination against Roma is widespread. Besides this, it will help Roma youngsters to engage in the community live, in social and cultural activities and also engage with the mainstream society.
Please show your support to our cause by purchasing these (awesome!) Roma personalized handmade jewelry and accessories.
1. Roma Flag Earrings (see rewards)
2. Opre Rromale Badge (see rewards)
