Support Ramir’s Battle Against Cancer

We hope that every person; friends, family, and all the good souls, whom we will be able to reach through this humble message could take the time to extend their help to our dad, Ramir B. Castro, in his battle against high-grade cancer.

In July of 2017, our dad underwent a major operation to remove a large tumor found inside his bladder. After the biopsy, he was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, a very rare cancer type which only accounts for just 1-3% of all bladder tumors. He was given one month to regain his lost strength and immediately underwent weekly localized chemotherapy sessions for 6 weeks. However, during his sessions, he started experiencing excruciating pain in his prostate area. It was so painful that he had to stop going to work, driving, and then walking altogether. He was in constant pain and was taking doses of medications for 2 months. The doctors could not determine what it was as he couldn't be operated while undergoing chemotherapy. We all thought that it was a side effect of the treatment.

During his cystoscopy after his chemo sessions, both us and the doctors were taken aback to find out that the cancer has spread to his prostate, and possibly to other neighboring organs. In a span of just 6 weeks, the aggressive cancer cells have produced a tumor so large it has consumed the whole prostate area.

Our dad was scheduled to undergo an operation to remove his bladder and prostate. But, since the cancer might have metastasized, he was put in another weekly chemotherapy program for 6 months, and possibly radiation if the CA cells and tumors refuse to shrink. After the 6-month cancer management program, he will again undergo another major operation to finally remove all affected organs.

The doctors said that the cancer may have stemmed from chronic inflammation of the area. When he was four years old, he underwent extensive surgery as his bladder shattered into six pieces after getting run over by a six-wheeler truck. He has underwent multiple surgeries and reconstruction throughout the 46 succeeding years of being a survivor. Now at 50, we are hoping that he will again conquer this terrible disease, and we, together with him, are not losing hope in claiming a full recovery, as he deserves to live a hundred years more.
