Campaign Story
Last month, I went to the doctor to get help for severe sharp pain in my right abdomen. I was devastated to hear that I have uterine fibroids. Since then, I have been seeing gynaecologists in Tanzania, and they have found 4 Subserosal Fibroids and Pedunculated Fibroids around my uterus. I am currently taking medication for the pain, but it's only a temporary solution.
The best solution recommended by the gynaecologists is to remove the fibroids safely through Laparoscopic Myomectomy and diagnostic Hysteroscopy to find and remove any from inside the uterus. The challenge is that the procedure can only be done in India and not in Tanzania, so I need help to get there, along with an attendant to help me through the journey. I don't have a regular income, and I was planning to start my business this year and find a new job. However, with this curveball, it's been hard to move forward with my plans. The pain prevents me from moving around, which has been challenging for me.
I am reaching out to anyone kind enough to help me through this. Your efforts of support would mean the world to me and possibly give me hope in moving forward with my career. With your help, I can get the surgery I need and continue to build my business. Thank you so much for your generosity, and may you be blessed abundantly.

In this series, I explore my culture with the intent to find myself within it. I am from Dar-es-Salaam, and I have found myself actively and inactively living in other towns along this Swahili coast. This has led me to a process of relearning about my home, the cultures and the people who live here. However, I have been unable to glimpse myself within this learning process and thus, the Kujiona Series was born. This body of work consists of groupings of work - a photo collage series and a short 10-minute film - each following a three-part progression that moves from collecting (kusanya), relearning (jifunze) and reimagining oneself (jione). Through this work, I hope to present a very personal process of rediscovering my culture and an intentional repositioning of myself and my identity
