I was in the workshop with Paul. I am a professional musician myself, but I was stunned by the way Paul works with te choralists, no matter what they could or couldn’t do. He has trust in everyone and drives the group to joy and happiness! This guy can do great things for his country and for singers and even non-singers throughout the world! Help him!!! The Fdration A Coeur Joie has been incredibly supportive to me even since before the start of my educational adventure in Belgium. Once I arrived to this land, Fdration A Coeur Joie Wallonie - Bruxelles welcomed me as if I had been part of the family ever since I was born.

One of the ways in which they have supported me and continue to do so, it is through organizing and promoting workshops to be led by me, giving me the chance to gain valuable experience as a young conductor and to meet an extraordinary community of choral singers.

Here I share a list of most of the ateliers that I have done with them so far:

* Namur en Choeurs Festival. May 1st to 4th, 2014.
Atelier "Musique Latino", Avec Paul Sojo.

Gratitude, endless gratitude.

Gratitude, Gratitude infinie! (Plus bas, une version en franais)

Dank, oneindige dank! (Scroll naar beneden voor de Nederlandse versie)

Gratitud infinita! (Versin en espaol ms abajo)

Since the beginning of this educational project I've counted on the support of several generous colleagues, friends and organizations such as the European Choral Association - Europa Cantat (ECA-AC), Schola Cantorum de Venezuela Foundation, Nol Minet Fund for choral conducting students and A Coeur Joie Federation. Thanks to them I managed to cover the cost of my audition's trip to Europe in June 2013 - trip during which several friends all over Europe generously hosted and fed me- and their donations also helped me importantly to cover the initial, crucial costs of moving to Belgium and starting the first academic year. Not less important is the fact that through this fundraising campaign I have been blessed with all the online and offline donations, for which I am of course very thankful.

Choral Singing gives meaning and a mission to my life.

I have been blessed to sing next to wonderful people from all around the globe as a member of Schola Cantorum de Venezuela, Cantus Firmus Male Ensemble, Orfen universitario Simn Bolvar, World Youth Choir, and Time Ensemble. With these organizations and artists I have had many unique and unforgettable performing and learning opportunities which will always be part of my inspiration to go on.

During my last two years in Venezuela I dared to start a choir in my home village, Curiepe, and I was astonished both by the talent of the people of all ages who joined me and the generosity a whole community who supported our activities and opened its heart to choir singing, showing sincere respect and appreciation to it and quickly recognizing its social value. Curiepe showed me that it is ready to embrace choral singing as part of its chores and cores.

Despite the setbacks currently taking place in Venezuela, I can't stop dreaming of being able to contribute to future possibilities for children and youth in Curiepe to have the terrific opportunity of choral singing impacting their lives, as it did impact mine. All I must do now is to keep fighting for this opportunity to grow as a musician and artist.

Please pledge! Your donation will never be small. Any amount will do. I?ll be deeply thankful if you share the fundraiser among your contacts.

Thanks for your support!

Gratitude, Gratitude infinie

- European Choral Association - Europa Cantat (ECA-AC).

Last October 28th, 2014, it was already one year since I managed to land in Belgium to finally start this educational adventure which has been awesome so far, and I am thankful to those who have supported me and continue to do so.

Here there is a brief update of how this first year has gone.

Saturday, Oct 27th, 2013. My dear friend Samir came home, in Caracas, to help me finish to pack everything.

After a bunch of obstacles solved, and some still to overcome, I dared to board a flight to Belgium even though by then I still hadn't managed to get my student's Visa approved, therefore I traveled as tourist.

On Sunday 28th, I was picked up by my World youth Choir friend Sander Le Roy. After dropping my luggage at his place in Antwerp and having dinner, we immediately went to my first rehearsal of Bach's Christmas Oratorio with the Waelrant choirs, there in Antwerp.

Then, time to start facing the new challenges of living in a foreign country; Finding a place where to live in Leuven, different weather, new language(s) to learn, etc... Luckily the Lemmensinstituut is full of kind and supportive teachers and personnel who helped me a lot and made the adaptation process as smooth as possible.

During the first trimester of each academic year the school plans a big choral-symphonic project. On November 4th, there I was singing music by the Flemish composer Jules Van Nuffel, led by one of my two choral conducting teachers, Mr. Kurt Bikkembergs, and being part of an astonishing ensemble of around 140 voices and the school's symphonic orchestra. (Although later on I realized that first year's students didn't have to do that project, hahaha... That was me, the new student who arrived to school two months later, being a bit lost and joining the wrong project.)

On January 2nd 2014 I surprised my family in Curiepe -my home village, in Venezuela- with an unannounced visit! And of course it was great to see them again. Nevertheless, such unexpected trip back home had a reason to worry about: my time as a tourist was about expiring and I was denied the students Visa due to insufficient financial sustainability proves. Being in a foreign country in illegal stay conditions didn't look like a good idea, thus, I went to my homeland.

I didn't give up, though. On January 18th I traveled back to Belgium, resumed school with no major troubles and restarted the Visa process.

On April I finally received a positive answer for my visa, Hurray!. This happened thanks to one of my teachers who decided to sign as my guarantor before the Belgian state, since there was no other possible financial guaranty I could have provided. My teacher did this despite not really having the possibilities to provide any financial support for me, it was just a way to overcome this bureaucratic step, which I truly appreciate!.

The learning and artistic experiences have been great so far. I am surrounded by many excellent teachers and a bunch of hardworking and talented school mates from whom I constantly learn a lot.

I joined the school's chamber choir, a great opportunity for high level music making under the baton of my other conducting teacher, Mr. Erik Van Nevel.

Board members of A Coeur Joie Federation, who are aware of my path as a choral singer and conducting student, have proposed me to lead workshops on Latin American choral repertoire among local choirs in Belgium and it is going very well.

I stayed in Leuven during my summer holidays this year, time to do some summer jobs which not only helped me to pay some debts, but also gave me some extra knowledge on scooter driving, food delivery, dish washing, etc. There are many funny episodes to tell about this period. Like, this one time when I got lost in Leuven while trying to deliver and order which included an ice cream: it totally melted!. I once flood the kitchen of the restaurant because I put the wrong soup in the dishwasher, major disaster!

Did I say it was going to be a short update? Oops... It seems I lied.

Now I am doing my second year at the Lemmensinstituut, and it feels great to be encouraged by the memories of all the support that I have received from all of you who now read this post.

Thank you!

Paul
