Libertarian Atheneon of Volos is a collective venture, a social center in the city of Volos in Greece. It is active for the last year and it is run by its management assembly. After many months of discussions we concluded that in the city we live in, was clear the absence of a social center, which would not aim to profit, election canvassing, or to be an alternative entertainment spot. But on the contrary would have as its purpose the cultivation of critical thinking, of libertarian culture, of collective spirit and solidarity, along with the fighting against sexism and racism within the local society. Until now in Libertarian Atheneon of Volos function groups of critical reading on books and texts that combine the purposes of our venture. There are a library and reading room with dozens of philosophical, literary, and art books, magazines, leaflets, and texts. We organize movie screenings and discussions about the context of each film or documentary. We host art exhibitions, book presentations, discussions, and events. All of the above run in a non-profit way. From the beginning until now the monthly expenses of the venture are covered by the members of Libertarian Atheneon of Volos. We are workers, unemployed people, and students and through the pandemic, our income has dramatically reduced.
