More than 26 000 people in this region are struck by chronic kidney disease. Toxic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers have contaminated water sources and taken a toll on the health of local communities. Every family has a loved one who is affected.
Pragathi Farmers’ Society is a team of 100 farmers dedicated to reviving a range of organically grown endemic varieties of paddy which have high nutritious value, and other crops like vegetables and greens. It is a community-based movement which focuses on completely eradicating the use of harmful pesticides and synthetic fertilizers among its members' farms.
The project not only secures the health and wellbeing of the farmer community, it also preserves traditional methods of cultivation which conserve the environment.
The project uplifts the economy of the farmers through the sale of processed and packaged organic products.
The farmers need your help to purchase the necessary equipment and set up the processing facility. Even your small contribution can help reverse the ill effects on humans and environment and contribute to a healthy society. We invite you to contribute to this worthy cause!
PS! The crowdfunding campaign is based in Sri Lanka but listed under the Norwegian flag due to platform restrictions.
