Hello to everyone.
This campaign is dedicated to my eleven-year old daughter who is passionate about contemporary dance. Now, I know that there are thousands of other children out there who share the same passion and who put a lot of effort into it, striving to become better each day and having all of their parents' support. :) So why did we turn to GoGetFunding and why should you support my little one?
Well, let me tell you a bit about ourselves and why I believe Daria - that's her name - stands out.
We live in a city where contemporary dance is not quite popular, and where there aren't too many options (I'd say there aren't any comprehensive options) to study it. My daughter discovered contemporary dance when she was like 9. At that time, she was attending a local dance club and things seemed to go in the right direction, until something happened during the summer holidays which made her quit the club. She felt disappointed, let down, and couldn't see any progress anymore. Her teacher didn't manage to change her mind, and she felt heartbroken when he implied that she thought she was better than any of the other dancers there.
For a while, she didn't want to dance anymore. People said she was talented, but she had lost her will, her drive. I, as her mother, was deeply saddened to see her like that. But one day she saw a former colleague of hers dancing and that was the spark that reignited her passion.
So in October 2018, she started training on her own. We rented a space for her, a nice hall fit for ballet lessons, and paid an hourly rate of 50 RON for it. She had been told she wouldn't make it without a trainer and she was determined to prove everybody wrong. And so she did. I was there to support her and I learned dancing stuff on my own to be able to give her corrections. She created her own choreography and competed with it.
This went on until June 2019, when the owners of the hall told us we needed to clear the space, as they intended to "change its purpose" or "make something else out of it". I freaked out, we were just a few days ahead of our first competition for that summer and all of a sudden we didn't have where to train anymore. I literally had a panic attack and cried my heart out, but then someone out there reached out to us and we managed to find another hall, not as beautiful and nicely fitted as the old one, but it was the best we could have at that time. We attended the competition and secured the third place, it was a huge success for us - remember, no professional trainer, her choice of music, her choreography - she was 10 and a half at that time.
From then on, if we wanted to pursue our training, we had to conclude a subscription agreement with the hall, as it is not privately-owned. And we did so. We go there two times a week and each time spend two hours exercising. We pay 40 RON per hour. We have 18 hours booked for February. February is also the month opening the new competition season.
Now, I know some of you out there may well think we are crazy to spend so much money on this. Some of you may well wonder why we don't just get her into a club, with a trainer, and pay waaayyy less for a monthly subscription. And manage on our own, after all, parents are supposed to cover for their children's expenses, including their hobbies. But like I said, in this city, contemporary dance is still fresh, there is no dedicated club, or association, or organization, there is not even a truly proper space for training - and by truly proper I mean a hall with ballet bars, mattresses, trellises, and a softer floor (we have bought our own mattresses, elastic band, yoga blocks, and so on). She is determined to make it on her own, she has learned several figures on her own, she has competed on her own and got congratulated for that. We have been told that making it is impossible. Yet you can see in the picture attached how impossible it is. Of course, she still has much to go.
What we need help with is our monthly subscription (until now, we have managed to cover it on our own, I have receipts to prove that), competitions, and workshops. So far, we have managed to attend a local workshop and to travel to another city for another workshop.
So if you think this cause is worthy of your attention, please let us know, thank you so much.
