I was selected as part of student leaders in university campuses by the Clinton Global Initiative University Program (CGI U), to participate in the leadership conference which includes a 3-days meeting, at the University of Chicago, Illinois from October 19-21. I will learn, network and improve the impact of my project which is attempting to solve the rate of mortality caused by oral diseases in underserved communities.
CGI U is an annual educational conference where student leaders, activists, social entrepreneurs and civic society members come together to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Each CGI U attendee makes a Commitment to Action, a concrete plan for a social enterprise or charitable project that makes a measurable difference in at least one of following focus areas: education, environment and climate change, peace and human rights, poverty alleviation, and public health. At CGI U, attendees learn from subject matter experts and each other in an effort to advance innovative social enterprises and philanthropic projects around the world. CGI U was created to inspire college students to take action as global citizens and equip them with the skills and knowledge to make a meaningful, measurable impact.
I am currently at the tail end of my fundraising activity and I must confess I am hooked up here, hence, your help. I have raised funds for my accomodation, feeding and visa already offline. Still, a considerable amount is left to be gotten in order to pay for my flight ticket and intercity transport.
This is a conference that poses to birth thought-provoking discussions between experts, eyewitnesses, policymakers, students, academics and the local public, while building on the critical momentum to offer emerging but concrete plans to continue to enhance poverty alleviation, public health, climate change, education and human rights.
