MIYK AND THE WORLD OF DANCE

As many of you know, Miyk Moore is passionate about dance. He went to his first ballet class when he was 6 years old at The Dance Studio in Austin Texas under Lucretia Alvarez. He continued to take ballet classes all through grade school, junior high at various locations and every weekday during his freshman year of high school at the Studio Roxander in Medford Oregon.  He has also studied privately with Sarah Lozoff at the Dancing People Company Studio, and this summer, he had the opportunity to attend the Perry-Mansfield School of Performing Arts School & Camp in Steamboat Springs, CO where he was able to study with some of the country's top dance instructors and dancers whose resumes include Julliard, Alvin Ailey, Bill T. Jones, Paul Taylor and Pina Bausch to name a few. With their encouragement, he applied and was accepted to the Interlochen Performing Arts Academy Boarding High School in Michigan.  This opportunity comes once in a life time, and for a 15 year-old aspiring dancer, Miyk is ready to take on the challenge. The school has given him a generous Finacial Aid Package, but it is still short of the full tuition and fees that he needs to achieve his dreams. 

A DAY IN THE LIFE

A typical day at Interlochen for Miyk includes rising early to take challenging 10th grade high school classes followed by afternoon hours in the studio studying various dance techniques such as ballet, jazz and modern with evening rehearsals in the current production for his major. He will share his room with another Interlochen student whose focus may be in Music, Visual Art, Theatre, Creative Writing, Motion Picture Arts or Comparitive Arts allowing him to interact with other disciplines and support his classmates in their field. The school is designed to "provide students with a cross-disciplinary education that promotes development as artists, technicians and thinkers" (from the Interlochen website- www.academy.interlochen.org/dance-major) Interlochen will prepare him for a professional life by giving him the techniques, tools, and connections to build his career. WHAT YOU CAN DO

Miyk comes from a large family created through adoption. His moms are working hard to get all their children the things that they need to realize their full potential, but as we all know, times are tough, so there are certain things that every family has to sacrifice.  This should not be one of them. Any donation of any size would be greatly appreciated. There is no limit to what Miyk can achieve with this opportunity and your gift will help his family afford Interlochen.
