Campaign Story
A DREAM of qualifying for the 2020 Paralympics Hand Cycling in Tokyo, Japan.
A big thank you for taking the time to visit my campaign page. This campaign is to raise the fund and allow me to buy my dream and professional competitive hand bike, which will help me to train hard and take my performance and results to next level. (link)
I am Para Cyclist in Hand Cycling category. I am currently training with Para Cycling Federation of Singapore (PCFS). In the last three years, I have been training very hard. This has led to me having a real chance of turning dream into reality. The next 10 months will be crucial as I ramp up my participation in international tournaments to rack up the necessary points. The last tournament I joined in April 2019 – the Asian Para Cycling Championships, Uzbekistan – saw me finishing an encouraging 5th position. This was despite challenging conditions – 10deg C temperature, rain, strong wind – weather I’m not used to. It made me stronger, faster, more experienced.
As with all professional sports, specialized gear is important – but expensive. If I have my own specialized hand cycle – one that can compete a high level – my training preparations will be much smoother, and I will be that much closer to achieving my dream of qualifying for the Paralympics.
To increase my chances of better placings at the next few tournaments, I will be purchasing my own professional bike for $19,000 (http://carbonbike-usa.com/revox-33/) inclusive of GST, Customs and Shipping charges. A good bike will help greatly in taking me to the next level. However, as the sole breadwinner in my family supporting my wife and my new born daughter, this is an expensive undertaking, especially since I am already saddled with the cost of participating in international tournaments. Each overseas tournament cost me an average of $3,000, and I am taking part in four in Thailand, Malaysia, Netherlands and Lebanon in the next half a year.
Below are some of my accomplishments in this sport:
Asian Para Cycling Championships (Apr 2019) | Tashkent, Uzbekistan | 5th Place |
Swedish Para Cycling Cup (Oct 2018) | Sweden | 4th Place |
OCBC Cycle National Championship ITT (Jun 2018) | Singapore | 1st Place |
Singapore International Para Cycling Cup (May 2018) | Singapore | 2nd Place |
Asian Para Cycling Championships (Feb 2018) | Myanmar | 4th Place |
Singapore National Para Games (Sept 2017) | Singapore | 1st Place |
I am also preparing for following upcoming races, which I will have to fund myself and are important to collect the qualifying points.
24 Jun 2019 | Thailand Para Cycling Cup 2019 | Thailand |
30 Jun 2019 | OCBC Cycle National Championship ITT | Singapore |
20 Aug 2019 | Malaysian Para ITT | Malaysia |
12 Sept 2019 | UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships | Emmen, Neitherlands |
20 Nov 2019 | Beirut Marathon Para-Cycling | Beirut, Lebanon |
