This is an UPDATE on: Ìbẹ̀rẹ̀: My Origin. Mi Origen, myself, and crowdfunding campaign.

• -Books are in Customs

The good news is that the book Ibere My Origin Mi Origen came out of production and all 550 books were shipped by the printers, here to Costa Rica. Bad news is that they are still sitting in customs here, since February 2021.

• -Nervous breakdown

I had a nervous breakdown at the same time, was hospitalized for a while, and I must say I’m still in recovery but I can’t lose the books so I’m here again.

You may want to know what prompted the nervous breakdown, and excess stress brought about during self-publishing in a period of a year (not enough); I live with a psychiatric condition called bipolar disorder and so, poor stress management was a terrible trigger for my crisis.

And so, the bottom line is that now customs is asking for a lot as the books have been in their storage for a year, plus I need to cover the customs agency fees (this is the company that imports the goods), in total almost $3,500 (storage, taxes and customs agency, etc). The only way out of this situation is to reopen the crowdfunding campaign and rally among you friends and family to raise the funds.

I glad to present to you my latest project. I'm talking about "Ìbẹ̀rẹ̀: My Origin. Mi Origen", a book of Spoken Word, Dub poetry, and Anansi folktales, that speaks of my background and the story of my people, Afrikan people of Costa Rica, how we got here, our journey from Afrika to the Caribbean then to our current location, our community life, and our struggle.

While nimbly switching cultural and linguistic codes, it presents you with an everyday scene from the viewpoint of a black womban and all the intersections that cross her.

Ìbẹ̀rẹ̀ is written in Spanish, English, Spanglish, and Limonian Creole, and is completely translated to both English and Spanish. It's a multimedia resource that also contains recordings and videos of recited poems and tales over Afro-Latin contemporary music. It comes in 2 formats: regular paperback and a special edition that comes in handcrafted binding in bogolafini or mud-cloth making allusion to its concept of Beginning and Origin.

Ìbẹ̀rẹ̀: My Origin. Mi Origen, was declared of Cultural Interest by the Ministry of Culture and Youth of Costa Rica and is has now been sent for printing. Audio tracks and videos are also in the process of production.

This is my second book, both self-published. This is a very expensive endeavor, but I prefer this over using publishing companies that keep 80% of your book sales. I do most of the work myself and make the investment with a lot of effort and sacrifice, but the result is worthwhile.

As I said before, Ìbẹ̀rẹ̀ is in the process of printing and audiovisual production, but on this occasion, I'm short on funds to complete the remaining production of the book. This is why your help is needed!!!.

Printing of 550 copies will be done at the beginning of October, then shipping of the final product will take 45-50 days by sea. then customs handling and SE binding will take another 30 days so the final product is programmed to be ready for the 2nd week of December, so If there are no delays due to our current worldwide situation. you can expect your reward shortly after.
