Campaign Story
In 2018, Cameroon continues to face an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. Armed conflict in the Central African Republic (CAR) and the 'Boko Haram' terrorist group in Nigeria has resulted in a massive influx of refugees into the already chronically vulnerable region.
According to the UN Refugee Agency(UNHCR), there are over 300,000 refugees and asylum seekers in Cameroon from 26 countries . In addition, there are over 100,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the South West and North West Regions due to the catastrophic 'Anglophone crisis' that has rocked these two Regions for over two years.,
The conflicts and regional insecurity have meant that numerous towns and villages have been vacated, communities are hiding, villages have been burnt to ashes, and those who have been forced to flee their homes have limited access to even the most basic services.
Humanitarian assistance is crucial as these vulnerable populations continue to experience food insecurity and malnutrition, alongside an increasing risk of epidemics. In order to improve the well-being of IDPs, we wish to raise funds through the Refugee Welfare Association (REWAC) , website: www.rewac.org which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promote actions focused on improving the livelihoods and self-reliance of refugees, asylum seekers and IDPs in Cameroon.
The money raised through this campaign will be used to coordinate the distribution of food, toiletries, second hand clothing, shoes and medication in villages located in the North West and South West Regions.
