The DA has set up a crowdfunding initiative to assist its Councilors who have been working tirelessly without any remuneration since the ANC's unlawful coup in the City of Tshwane.
We call on citizens at home and abroad to support our Councillors during these very difficult times while the Tshwane court battle pertaining to the unlawful dissolution of council is ongoing in the various South African courts.
The 90 member caucus has not received a salary for 6 months.
The DA has assisted about 50 Councillors with loans to cover basic necessities.
There has been no clear indication as to when a judgment on the Tshwane coup can be expected in either the Supreme Court of Appeal or the Constitutional Court.
In the interim, DA Councillors are committed to continuing to carry out their duties to serve the residents of the City of Tshwane with their service delivery issues, to the best of their ability.
All funds raised will be made available by DA in the form of an interest free loan to Councillors. Once any of the two pending court judgements are made and the Councillors reinstated, the Councillors will be expected to repay the loan to the party and the funds raised will be used to fund the DA's election campaign leading to the Local Government Elections scheduled for late 2021.
