Support for Orphanage Children with Special Needs in Tanzania

Mambo! (Hello)

We are Donia, Wakilat and Cydni! We are from Canada , Switzerland and the USA.

Currently, we are a part of a project called “Destiny Foundation” in Arusha, Tanzania. The Destiny Foundation provides care for children born with mental and physical disabilities. The Destiny Foundation provides room and board for 15 children, and has an outreach program that helps up to 80 children in the community. Different cultures have different views of disability, and in Tanzania many disabled children do not receive the care they need. People with disabilities experience stigma and discrimination in the form of prejudice, negative attitudes, abuse and mistreatment. Disabled children often do not have the opportunity to spend time with other children their own age and miss out on the positive impact of peer interactions.

The children we have been working with here have either Cerebral Palsy, Downs Syndrome, or Autism. First arriving at the program, it was a shock to see how little these children have. The children lack proper nourishment(most are malnourished), clothing, supplies, and stimulation. It is a very emotional environment for us volunteers, but the simplest things make these kids extremely joyous; seeing the smiles on their faces everyday makes us never want to leave.

We, as a trio have already brought some little essential things for the kids that could help them for now but then we also decided to create this go fund me to help support the kids even more. Your support and donation will go a long way and it will go into helping provide the kids with:

• Shoes and clothes
• Food that will sustain them better
• Paint/cement/and other material to finish the classroom and “calm down” room
• Soap/detergent/toothpaste/toothbrushes
• Supplies for the classroom
• Books
• Games and toys

We want these deserving kids to have better resources and a better education. Any support is appreciated!
