Campaign Story
On 24th November 2022, my dad passed out in a pool of his own vomit after lunch at work. He suffered a severe stroke to his left brain and underwent several surgeries to remove the blood clot from his brain. He spent the next 5 days in the high-dependency ward battling for his life.
He just got transferred to the regular ward, but the stroke has destroyed his ability to speak and move the right side of his body. He is also unable to eat by himself and have to be fed through a tube from his nose. The extent of his brain damage is still unknown at this time, but we know that there will be a long road to recovery and the very real possibility that he may never walk or talk again.
Yesterday I (his only son) requested for the interim hospitalization bill, and I was shocked to find out that the bill has already exceeded $8k (even after the 75% bill subsidy provided by the government for lower-income families). Unfortunately, my dad does not have any insurance policy to cover this mounting cost. My mum is unaware of the full hospitalization cost at the moment because the last thing I want to do right now is to add on to her stress and anxiety...
I've always heard my parents said, "In Singapore, you can only afford to die, but not to fall ill". It was only after this incident that it really daunted on me what it really means... I'm really left with no other choice but to seek your help. Any funds raised will be used to support my dad's recovery. This may include medical expenses, rehabilitation, and any other support required for my dad's recovery.
--------------------------------------------------
(31st December 2022) Dad is currently warded at TTSH Rehabilitation Center to undergo intensive rehab (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy). He still can't quite speak (he can whisper words, sometimes inaccurately) and can't really move the right side of his body. He is expected to be discharged sometime in January. We are currently making arrangements to hire a caregiver to take care of him as he needs significant assistance in all 6 activities of daily living (ADLs) - washing, dressing, feeding, toileting, mobility and transferring.
Thank you for reading and I hope that every single one of you stay safe and healthy.

Transfer of hospital
Update posted by Yong Beng at 08:07 amDad got transferred to TTSH rehabilitation center (acute hospital) to undergo more intensive rehab. His right side of the body unfortunately still has zero strength, but hopefully the rehab will help him regain some mobility and speech. Thank you all again for your kindness ❤️
Transitional Feeding
Update posted by Yong Beng at 08:26 am
Dad ripped off his feeding tube from his nose... On the bright side, the speech therapist assessed and doctors agreed to allow him to transit back to oral feeding. For now, all of his meals have to be blended to aid swallowing. By the way, thank you every single one
