Support for Leianna, Our Mighty Heart Warrior

Leianna was one of the lucky Heart Babies that was diagnosed in-utero, and pretty early on in the pregnancy too. She was born at 36+2 weeks and her twin brother, Luke. Shortly after her birth, Leianna was admitted to NICU at KK Women's and Children's Hospital for 42 days due to breathing difficulty secondary to Congestive cardiac failure requiring positive airway pressure. At 3 months old, Leianna had undergone the toughest procedure of open heart surgery for the surgical closure of her Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and patent foramen ovale (PFO) and was discharged well after weeks of recovery at CICU/SDU. Leianna remained in close medical care and attention of different specialists at KKH. She's being seen by a Haematologist for the vascular malformation found in her liver called hemangioma, a Genetics in view of dysmorphic features and dilated posterior horn of lateral ventricles, a ENT for her weak cry and high risk hearing case, Nutritionist and Speech Therapist, OT and PT for early intervention, follow-up visits with her surgeon and cardiologist, and Nephrologist for monitoring of echogenic foci detected during the last ultrasound in her kidney.

Leianna may have been welcomed into this world with CHD, open heart surgery, long hospital stays, frequent travels to KKH for her whole day medical specialists appointments, laboratory tests, and the uncertainties that come with her condition, but these did not stop her from being in high spirit always. She has endured so much trials early in life but stays strong-willed and persevering.

Being a family with a child and a mended heart like Leianna, hospital bills are hefty and medical care costs continue. Leianna's hospital bills alone total was 142,842.42 SGD. Government grant, Medisave funds, and financial savings were not sufficient to cover the costs. We've approached the local social work for financial support but the application was rejected for Leianna was born as a foreigner in Singapore. We owe the hospital huge amount and the bills continue to pile up as Leianna continue to receive her needed medical care.
