Support for Katie Daschuk’s Cancer Treatment

No one can prepare you for receiving a diagnosis of cancer. Katie Daschuk is 33 years old and mom to Lily (9), Olivia (4), and Jack (2). She has a Master’s Degree in Social Work and is a Clinical Caseworker at the Ranch Ehrlo Society where she is dedicated to helping vulnerable kids and families.

When Katie was given the devastating news in July of 2020 that she had Stage 3 cervical cancer, she and her husband Darrel were shocked and frightened. Despite this, Katie was so brave and went ahead with radical treatment to get rid of the cancer.

After a series of intensive radiation and chemotherapy treatments, her cervical cancer has sadly returned and spread. In fact, it has spread so quickly and extensively to other organs and parts of her body that her oncology team has determined that conventional treatment is not the best option. It breaks our heart to share with you that Katie’s cancer is Stage 4.

But there’s hope.

Katie’s oncologists are optimistic about a new immunotherapy drug called Pembrolizumab, which has shown a promising success rate for cancer patients around the world. Clinical trials indicate that it’s safe, but unfortunately it’s quite expensive and not yet covered by Saskatchewan Health for cervical cancer.

The cost of this treatment is $250000, which consists of 12 injections ($20,833 each) in total, which is why we are asking for your help.
