I am the person, who look at the cancer from other side - as person who would like to find solution. I am young girl from Czech Republic, who try to help people with brain tumors and I work in the brain cancer research almost 5 years. Currently, I try to raise the money for my Gliblastoma Multiforme research, where I would like to identify new potential treatments and targets for this extremely dead disease and also for my expenses regarding the PhD program in Medicine at the University of Sydney, where I have been already accepted.
I had a passion to be a doctor or cancer researcher from my childhood. During whole my University life I worked in brain cancer diagnostics and research in Czech Republic. During those years I have seen a lot of people with this most common and the most lethal brain tumor. Many of patients were also young . Although a lot of researches are involving in several type of malignancies, brain tumor research remain still less funded and the understanding of this type of cancer is still weak. Current standard of care treatment options is multimodal: most treatments involve maximal surgical resection, radiation and concomitant and adjuvant chemotherapy with temozolomide. Despite aggressive treatment, the median survival time is about 14.6 months, and the five-year survival rate remains at a staggering 3-5%. It is, therefore, imperative to explore novel mechanisms and targets for this disease.
When I finished with my Master's degree I have decided I would like to move and continue with my work in another place, where will be the better conditions for research. I have went thought complicated work permit process and although I am pretty young, I've received the work visa for specialty professional. I work almost one year in Pediatrics Brain Cancer Research team in Los Angeles hospital, but I feel I need to do more at this time- continue with my education to be more independent and continue with my research. Because the conditions for international students are pretty complicated here in USA (no chance for additional work for cover living expenses, low stipend for cover everything) I've accepted the offer from Australia, to study the PhD at the University of Sydney and also great chance to do the research in the Kolling Institute of Medical Research.
Now, I am trying to raise the money which can help me to cover some part of school expenses and allow me to do my Glioblastoma research. I believe,I can be successful and my great passion and enthusiasm for this field help me to achieve great results. I would like to find effective treatment for patients, who are fighting with Glioblastoma and save a lives. I know it is a big goal, but without these goals we can't win.
I will be grateful for every small financial support, every small donation is one step forward to my goal. I can talk about my research more in detail in case you will be interested to hear it.
Thank you a lot!!!
