Katie and Darin were elated and nervous to find out they were going to have a baby. They found out it was a girl near the halfway point in the pregnancy. Unfortunately, they soon found out their baby girl had an issue with her heart. Two, in fact. A rare heart condition called Ebstein's anomaly, and a pulmonary stenosis. They met with multiple doctors and discussed her outlook. They said many things but overall the answer was "we won't know until she's born". So they waited anxiously until on July 31 she failed the non stress test and was sent to the hospital. They ended up needing a c section on August 1, 2014. Astrid was born 6lb 10 oz and immediately rushed to NICU for support. Since her birth she has had to struggle through multiple unexpected issues, and has successfully fought through them all:-surgery to place a shunt in her heart-her heart started leaking in another location-bedside surgery to resize the shunt-they had to leave her chest open to help reduce swelling-they closed her chest-a lung infection was found-they had to remove fluid from her kidneys as they started to fail from so many medications-another surgery because they found internal bleeding in her abdomenI can keep adding updates as I receive them, but they will have many medical bills that need to be covered with multiple surgeries and other issues since she has been born.Any help would be much appreciated.*We do not know yet what the total medical bills will be, so the goal shown is most likely low compared to what it will end up being.****ALSO**** This is all non profit - every penny, aside from what gogetfunding deducts, will go directly to this family. I wanted to make it clear I am NOT taking anything for myself in this.
