About us

Climate Stories Philippines was born out of the recognition that there aren't enough pieces tackling the struggle of the most vulnerable communities to climate impacts in the news and in popular culture. There is much talk on policy targets and temperature degree limits, but not enough - never enough - on the day to day struggle and fiery bravery of people on the frontlines.

Our mission is to tell the human story of climate change by producing compelling content and commentary on the intersection between climate justice and human rights guided by science, policy, and data.

Armed with the tools of science and policy communication, digital campaigning, data storytelling and citizen journalism, we seek to empower young people and marginalized communities in filling the gaps in the climate change narrative.

We envision www.climatestories.ph to begin as a depository of stories about the human face of climate change -- but we want to do more.

We hope to empower both young people and communities themselves in amplifying the calls for climate justice through workshops and other learning events soon. To do that, we would have to operate officially as a non-stock, non-profit organization. Helping us means aiding our efforts in setting up our operations, support volunteers, hire staff, buy equipment and conduct trainings!

About the founder - Beatrice Tulagan

After working for three years with an international non-profit as its Policy Advocacy Director, I decided to focus on climate justice and the people in the frontlines. I started Climate Stories Philippines for them. I simply want to tell their stories and empower them to craft their own so they can send it out to the world without the need for media coverage or non-profit projects, simply because these narratives need to be heard repeatedly.

It is easy to get drowned in the talk about temperature targets and divestment percentages. My goal here is to make the story of climate change simpler and show again and again its human face and its costs to health and human rights.

But it doesn't stop there. I want to empower communities themselves with digital communication tools so they can produce a steady stream of content about their struggle even when the media vans are not around. As one fierce activist, Derec Cabe from Bataan, said, this is not just an advocacy for them, it's their life.
