Support Claire Diss and her fight against MND/Lyme Disease

Thanks again for all your donations, we have cleared the 7k mark so we are now aiming for 10k by the end of 2016!!

Laura O'Brien (C2) her children, Rossi and Evie, together with Laura's friend Sarah Burke and her son Louie will be taking part in a 5k colour dash on Sunday 10th July to help raise awareness and crucial funds towards Claire's medical expenses (see below for Claire's story).

CLAIRE'S STORY

In late 2015 Claire was diagnosed with ALS, the most progressive form of Motor Neurone Disease.　Claire was given a life expectancy of 2-5 years although over the last six months her condition has worsened considerably and she is now in a wheelchair. Believing that there may be a different underlying cause because there were anomalies between her symptoms and the diagnosis, Claire went to a specialist clinic in Germany where she tested positive for Lyme disease. Lyme disease is a bacterial infection spread by infected ticks which, if not treated promptly, can develop into a serious, painful and debilitating, long term condition which, we understand, can both cause and mimic the symptoms of ALS.

The treatment Claire needs to stabilise her condition is not available in the UK and she made the difficult decision to travel to Washington DC for treatment by an infectious disease doctor who specialises in Lyme disease. Claire has embarked on an aggressive antibiotic therapy lasting up to 9 months and, while there are no guarantees, Claire's doctor is confident it can halt the further progression of her illness and that there may be a chance that she can regain some of the functionality she has lost.

As you can imagine, this kind of experimental treatment is expensive and has to be funded by the family.　 Her friends and family have already held a number of fundraising events and, with the help of local media support, they have raised almost £30,000 in the last few months with a target of raising £60,000.
