Citizens of Myanmar have started a Civil Disobedience Movement that uses non-violent disobedience in an attempt to voice their anger and take down the military which staged a coup on February 1st, 2021.
To show resistance to the coup, normal citizens have started banging pots at home while government employees have refused to go to work with tens of thousands joining the streets to protests across the country.
Myanmar military has a history of staging brutal crackdowns against its own citizens; over 3000 students were shot dead in the 1988 pro-democracy protest while there were thousands of casualties during the Saffron Revolution in 2007. Our strategy of peaceful civil disobedience is in the tradition of Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi. We promote civil disobedience and peaceful protest because we believe this is the only way to preserve our young, fragile democracy, and our future.
Some participants of the Civil Disobedience Movement have lost their income as a result of joining the strike. This fund will be used to support those who live paycheck to paycheck so that their families are financially well-covered and more people are encouraged to join this momentous movement.
Your support is crucial in helping them continue their fight for democracy during these desperate times. Without your support, they cannot continue to disrupt the system that is necessary for the military to run the government. Please donate what you can and please spread the word by sharing.
