I am Harriet Nakabaale. I am a 45 year old single mother of four children. Having lost two daughters to sickle cell anemia, I have now raised a son and daughter. I am an ardent gardener and peer educator. I enjoy sewing, baking and I love children. I live in Kampala, Uganda; on a 32 by 50 feet plot. It is here that I grow food and raise birds to support my family.

Farming is a lead chapter on my story of salvation, having seen my son through university by this trade. Cultivating the earth has left a great impact on my heart, inspiring me to reach out to others and encourage them to engage in the practice as well. Since 1993, when I jointly acquired this plot with my husband, I recreated the same upbringing I was given as child for my children. Despite separating with my husband, I have withstood the times and their trials.

My life story motivated me to reach out to fellow women grappling with poverty and domestic deficiencies and for my exemplary service in food security, I was awarded second runner up for New Vision’s Woman Achiever’s Award, 2012.

In 2013, Camp Green was voted among the Top Nine Innovative Solutions on the African continent for Rockefeller’s Centennial Celebrations in Abuja, Nigeria. In the same year, Camp Green was chosen by Oxfam America as a model small holder farmer for the 2013 World Food Summit in Des Moines, Iowa.

With a profile spanning over 20 years, with millions of lives inspired, Camp Green aspires to create Africa’s leading college on agriculture and related fields.

On this background, Camp Green has held hundreds of workshops with both would be as well as established farmers in Uganda, the East African region and beyond. The institution has also welcomed over 10,000 visitors to its home in Kampala, Uganda, which is arguably the smallest farm in the world according to Oxfam America’s Coco McCabe who writes, “Fifty feet by 32 feet: as far as farms go, that's probably one of the smallest in the world. .”

In light of its activities, Camp Green is pursuing a 15 year goal of establishing Africa’s leading college specializing in agricultural education, and other related fields.

Funding is required and this will be received through all avenues. Donations of any amount are accepted in support of the venture for the acquisition of land to accommodate the facility as well as the planning and development of the facility (over the years.)

With your support, we can make it a reality.

Thank you,
