Bali is facing a few different crises at the same time. Suffering soil health, food production by almost exclusively old generations and joblessness due to COVID-19 are only a few.
Young generations need places of inspiration to tackle all the above and Jiwa Community Garden is striving to become an example to do so. This community classroom will be used to host workshops and courses on local agriculture wisdom, permaculture, composting and many more.
We have just begun building the community classroom with members from surrounding villages and other volunteers but are in need of additional funds to get it done! Once the classroom is finished, we can continue expanding our permaculture learning center with more facilities and start inviting primary schools and other community organizations to attend courses and workshops for free. The classroom will be build entirely from Bamboo and second-hand roof tiles.

Welcome to Jiwa Community Garden! Since October 2020, we’re pursuing 3 main missions:
1. Every single day, we pick up organic waste from local markets for nothing in return. All of this waste would otherwise end up in landfill, polluting soils and waterways. We’re turning this “apparent waste” into fertile compost that we lovingly call “Black Gold”.
2. Arid land that has been unused for over 20 years is being converted into productive permaculture gardens. Our black gold feeds soils, vegetables, fruits and ultimately, the bodies of all of us.
3. Part of the produce that we harvest from these gardens is distributed to people in need all over Bali. Through our partnership with Scholars of Sustenance and within our direct community, we are sharing the abundance this place is giving us every single day
It's simple. More people on this planet need to know how to turn organic waste into compost, and arid, unused land into productive permaculture gardens.
This is a community garden project and that’s why we need your help.
We are raising funds to build a permaculture learning center where we can share with people in the community about what we are doing so we can create more positive change in reducing waste, making more compost and growing more food for people in need.
