Hello, and thank-you for visiting our fundraising page!
We are Aimee Bliss (27 years old) and Amanda Sinclair (28 years old), and we are young aspiring scientists studying Biological Sciences at the University of Tasmania in Hobart. Excitingly, we have been selected for Homeward Bound - a leadership and strategic program for 78 women in science from around the globe, implemented through a collaborative expedition to Antarctica!
Homeward Bound aims to:
- Elevate the role of women in leadership globally
- Demonstrate how polar science tells us what is happening with the planet
- Explore the role of women in leadership positions in science as a catalyst for environmental change for a more sustainable future.
Departing Ushuaia, Argentina: December 2nd - 21st, 2016.
The training and skills we will gain from this expedition will help us to become successful, effective leaders in our field of environmental science. When we return from our journey we plan to share our story, passion for science and message for action on climate change with the community through public forums and workshops. We will also work to inspire and motivate young women to become scientists and leaders by running workshops and presentations in Tasmanian schools. We are committed to furthering our scientific education and using our science for positive environmental change.
Homeward Bound provides us with a scholarship that covers 60% of the expedition costs. To be a part of this incredible journey we have pledged to raise the final amount of US$15,000 each.
We hope that you can help us realise this wonderful opportunity! If you have any suggestions or would like more information we would love to hear from you! You can reach us by email at [email protected].
Thank-you so much for your support,
Aimee Bliss and Amanda Sinclair
