Supplemental Health Care for Dad

My father was recently told his cancer had returned for the third time - never really went away, but now back and spreading, so he requires additional treatments to try an minimize the impact. The doctor prescribed a new medication that appears to be a very good option with strong results, but the cost is $6,000 and not covered under Medicare; so his only current option is to take out a loan or dip into savings that currently pay the monthly bills. Of course, he'll need more than one prescription, so this treatment could potentially bankrupt him. I'm starting this fund raising effort to help my dad enjoy the remainder of his life without the stress of wondering if he'll be able to pay his bills and take care of my mother (she is suffering from Alzheimer's). My goal is to expand this idea into a non-profit organization that provides funding to terminally ill patients unable to secure insurance or enough funds to cover medicines that are well beyond the affordability of most people. It's crazy that new developments in medications are prohibitively expensive, and consequently don't help the people most in need; so I want to try and do something. I'm starting with one person and will go from there. Thanks for your help.
