I represent a private non-profit shelter in Minsk, Belarus. The facility houses more than a hundred cats at any given moment, including small kitten, grown-ups, disabled cats. The shelter subsists purely on the willpower of volunteers who provide care for cats almost round the clock and donations, which are scarce simply because people aren’t wealthy here. There are bills to pay - rent, buying food and cat litter, medicine, vet visits. But so far, the shelter makes due.
Current problem and the goal of this fundraiser are cats sick with Feline Immunodeficiency virus. While cats in good conditions can lead lives with FIV, shelter cats are within the risk groups and often with this virus they get the short end of the stick and die.
There is an experimental drug called GS-441524 that is both expensive and unavailable in Belarus. Volunteers order it through a very helpful contact in Moscow. So far it has shown good results and 8 cats were given another chance in life with just 1 cat dying due to unfortunate complications with leukemia.
Currently there are two young cats in the shelter who require the drug. They have received some that has been still available but need more. The drug is expensive and funds for it are unavailable.
Here’s Limon. He is 10 months old. He has nervous FIV variant with seizures. For a full course he requires 7 more vials of the drug worth around 420 EUR.
This one is Zhako. He’s 8 months old. His FIV is “wet”, meaning there’s fluid gathering in his abdomen that needs to be drained out. He still needs 10 vials worth approximately 600 EUR.
You could do us a real solid and help cover the costs of the medicine which might allow those young cats to perhaps find loving families and lead happy lives.
We don’t set a high donation bar as we’re unable to receive money directly to Belarus and all of the donations will go directly to the person buying us the medicine. Doesn’t mean we can’t use extra as there will most certainly be more animals with FIV. Not to mention there are other drugs available through our helping angel that aren’t possible to get here. So, if we are by chance over the limit amount, all the funds will be used to stock up on well-needed medicine.
Please consider donating. If you’re able to share it, that would also be terrific! Thank you very much!
