Summer program at NYCDA

Hi,

my name is Joao Fagundes. I just turned 20. I wanted to be an actor since I was a kid, but my household was very unstable. My family would never be able to support me financially. For that reason, I took a different path in life in order to keep my feet

on the ground and to be able to help them.

During the pandemic, I started to reflect about my life. My parents divorced, my brothers got out of the house... and what about me? So I started to search for online drama schools, just to take a look of what it's like. The only time I had been through a drama class was in high school.

It turns out that an opportunity came up and I auditioned for The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts as an international student - and I got in! Unfortunately, the tuition cost is very high. And the only bank that the school works with does not go through with international loans anymore (I had a US cosigner, my aunt). But the school was still happy to offer me a $1,000 scholarship for their Summer program, based on the strength of my audition.

Although the odds are against me, I can't wait to start pursuing my dreams. I've been waiting for an opportunity like this one my whole life. I know it's just a start but for me, it's more than that. It's me paving my way to a brighter future, doing what I love most. So I came here to kindly asking you for your help on taking this first step.
