"Donors don’t give to institutions. They invest in ideas and people in whom they believe."

-G.T. Smith

I am Akram Refaei, a third-year Nanotechnology Engineering student at University of Science and Technology, ZewailCity.

I have recently been accepted as an intern student with Prof. Mounir Boukadoum at COFAMIC research laboratory at Université du Québec à Montréal, Canada to conduct research on the use of artificial intelligence techniques for circuit and system design.

Last winter, I had an internship about Triboelectric Nanogenerators (TENGs) with Dr. Hassan Mustafa at the Opto-Nano Electronics Lab (ONE Lab), Cairo University and we have published a paper at MWSCAS 2018. We used COMSOL to propose a new model in cylindrical TENG. Furthermore, we developed from scratch an analytical model that characterizes the device behavior. Finally, we built a Verilog-A model based on the analytical equations. This internship highly qualified me for, and increased my interest exponentially in, the research environment. Moreover, it helped me reach some of my aims as I seek to gain more field experience and knowledge of the ongoing research to be more eligible for contributing.

Prof. Mounir is a professor of microelectronics engineering at The University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM). He holds a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering degree from The University of Houston, Texas. His current research covers the applications of artificial intelligence and nature-inspired techniques to solve analysis and design problems, particularly in relation to biomedical outcomes. Prof. Mounir is currently the director of the Design and Fabrication of Microsystems research laboratory at UQAM (COFAMIC), president of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society's chapter in Montreal and executive member of the Quebec Strategic Alliance for Microsystems research consortium (ReSMIQ). He is an active member of IEEE and member of three IEEE CAS conferences steering committees. He is also a co-founder of the IEEE NEWCAS conference and Co-Chair of the 2018 edition in Montreal.

The Intern will last around two months with total cost of 2500 $ as follows:

-Travel and visa will be 1000 $

-Accommodation, food, and transportations 1500$

I could afford up to 1300$, however I don’t have the rest to complete my dream and get abroad. I would be very grateful and would extremely appreciate it if you donate to this campaign and help me take the internship.

At the end, there is nothing more than to quote “I believe in innovation and that the way you get innovation is you fund research and you learn the basic facts. ” -Bill Gates

Thank you very much for your valuable time.
