Mme Josette Toussaint and her collegues are displaced Haitians, living in the Dominican Republic.  They came from Haiti to find work but never did.  Instead of sitting idle they have taken it upon themselves to keep the little people off the streets and out of harms way by trying to run a school for them. Many of these children are UNDOCUMENTED peoples and so they are at even greater risk to be stolen, sold and used.   We a small group of people have offered our support to Mme Josette by arranging for a school house, paying the $220 rent monthly so that the children can still come to school on rainy days.   Prior to our involvement they carried on the school in a small dark and dank church that would flood at the slightest change of weather. Since our involvement they are nowhoused in a 3 bedroom house that is gated, lockable (protects our supplies) has running water in a nice kitchen and a flush toilet. We have also managed to send over 600lbs of food from the GLEANERS in Oliver Cambridge and Vernon Canada.   We have managed to get clothing and educational supplies to them as well.   The Jolly Roger, one of our sponsors in the Dominican Republic in conjunction with local tourism outlets managed to take 22 of our students to Ocean World which was an absolute dream come true for these kids.   The children are healthier happier and safer for our efforts that have spanned over 2 years now.

Un fortunately we have reached the end of our capacity to assist.  Mme Josette and the two other teachers have worked on a volunteer basis for 7 years.  They cannot continue with out some kind of stipend for their personal needs which ads to the expenses that we are already barely covering.   I myself can no longer pay the $220 per month rent on the house and so we are reaching out for help for this courageous and selfless group of teachers who are determined, even in the face of their own starvation to continue to assist these kids. If we have to let go of the school house the children will return to the flooding molding church conditions from where they came.   This is a last and desperate attempt to reach out for assistance on their behalf.

This project would be of interest to any one who uses sugar as these are the decendents of the sugar cane workers.   Anyone who who is a teacher could well be inspired here especially if they are Francophone or of Haitian descent.  It would also be of interest to any and all Christians as the Christian doctorine and prayer are present here.

Any and all donations will be sent directly through me to Madame Josette Toussaint without a penny used for anything other than their immediate support.
