Hi There!
My name is Nathalie, I am a sophomore at the University of San Francisco (USF) studying U.S. History with the Dual Degree program. I grew up in Downtown Los Angeles and am a first generation college student.
This year, I was given the great oppurtunity to be part of a program called the Esther Madríz Diversity Scholars, which is a living-learning community focused on Sociology and dedicated to representing the Jesuit ideals of education and social justice, which the late Professor Esther Madríz embodied. This year we seek to explore the ideas set forth by Professor Madríz of “Crossing Borders, Discovering Home.” These borders may be physical, political, or social, but through this program we begin to analyze its impact. Through this process, we will be able to arrive at a better understanding of ourselves and of the world around us.
I have the opportunity to cross literal borders during a Transborder Experience. Our focus this year is exploring the roots of contemporary migration across the Americas, I will travel to Nicaragua to learn about the social, political, and economic interconnections between San Francisco and Managua. I will then bring my expereince back to USF and the greater San Francisco community and implement it through service work with immigrant organizations in the Bay Area during the spring semester 2014.
Students at the University of San Francisco are commited to embodying the school's motto “Change the World from Here.” In order for me embody and live this belief I am asking you to support my Transborder Experience to Nicaragua by making a donation towards my trip.
Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and any amount helps!
I greatly appreciate you for taking your time for reading this and thank you in advance for your contributions towards my educational experience abroad.
Thank you!
With lots of gratitude, Nathalie
