A few weeks ago, I have been offered to go to an exchange program in France for one semester for the course of Foreign Language Studies (French) at University of La Rochelle starting in mid-January 2018. I was so delighted when I got the offer as it has always been my dream to continue my studies abroad, and I am ever so blessed with this opportunity to do so.
However, one thing does stop me at my most wonderful moment, which is my family's financial situation doesn't allow me to study abroad and it breaks my heart to let go of this once-in-a-lifetime chance. I could not even afford to buy the plane tickets. I have tried countless of ways to raise the funds but to no avail. I have a bit of savings but it is not sufficient as the currency is a bit burdening for us being in Malaysia (1€ = 4.80MYR).
Both of my parents are retired. Their monthly pension is only sufficient for daily expenses such as groceries, gas money, bills and maintenance etc. So, they don't have anything to spare for my exchange program.
After a few calculations made, I have to at least raise 5000€ or 24,000MYR. The funds that I will receive from my university in Malaysia will cover 2000€ and I am short of another 3000€ (14,400MYR). It is a huge amount but seeing my parents jumping for joy when I got the offer. My dad even bought me my first ever winter jacket (we manage to get for a cheap price with high quality). With that, it made me more determine to raise more money.
So, I'm putting my all in my last resort in getting the help of this page and all of you wonderful people. Your contributions as low as 1 euro will help change everything for the better. Help me to make my parents proud and happy of how I have grown up to be.
I considered myself as fairly active student and I love doing volunteer work. I was one of the UPM's fourteenth college's student council for a year, and I hold the position of Vice President of the Secretariat of Information Technology and Media. I joined the theatre for my first year and on my second year of studies, I landed a role as one of the lost boys for the play Peterpan.
For the expenses I have to pay :
Rent : 335 € x 5 months = 1675€
Deposit: 230 €
Total for Accommodation = 1905€
Train Paris to La Rochelle : around 100€
Train La Rochelle to Paris : around 100€
(This include the carte jeune or discount card for train tickets)
Total Transportation : 200€
120€ per month x 5 months = 600€
Bank Fees (Opening an account) = 700€
Emergency money = 195 €
TOTAL : 3500€
This is what I'm planning to do with the money that I'm gonna raise here. I'm leaving for France on 14th of January 2018 (Malaysian Time). It is best that I could raise the funds as soon as possible, I'm literally hoping for a Christmas and New Year's miracle here.
I will be deeply honoured that you donate and spread the word. Your good deeds will forever engraved in my heart. Thank you for helping me making my parents happy and proud of how I turned out to be - able to achieve my dreams studying abroad and explore new horizons.
