Study rembetiko music and create a rembetiko music band

We are a group of musicians from Greece and Cyprus looking to study and promote rembetiko music through a series of concerts and lectures in Cyprus. We have a long association with rembetiko music and have been instrumental in reviving many rembetiko songs that had been forgotten by our people. In addition to rembetiko music we study and perform music written by great contemporary Greek composers such as Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Chatzidakis, Apostolos Kaldaras and Stavros Kougoumtzis. These composers, even though are not considered to be representatives of the rembetiko culture, have been inspired by the powerful rembetiko tradition and have echoes of rembetiko music in their compositions. Even though our band members come from different areas of music, we all share the same love and respect for rembetiko music. We aim at creating a band in Cyprus that will perform a series of concerts of an educational and recreational character that will attract more people towards rembetiko music and help us continue our study of this folk music genre.
